Karen Scalf-Benham, RN, MSN,
FNP-BC
Karen obtained her BA degree in 1986 from East Tennessee
State University in Johnson City, Tennessee, where
she majored in psychology.
In 1999, she was one of eight students selected
from a group of 24 to participate in the University
of Nebraska/Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital intern
program in Hastings, Nebraska.
In 2000, she received her BSN degree from the University
of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska and
began working as an oncology nurse at Mary Lanning
Memorial Hospital.
She moved to Virginia in 2001 where, for the next
seven years, she was employed as an intensive care
nurse and progressive care nurse at Montgomery Regional
Hospital in Blacksburg.
Among her many duties, she also chaired the hospital’s
Clinical Ladder Committee (2003-2005) and was a
member of the Shared Governance and IRB Committees.
During that time, she provided outpatient chemotherapy
to adult patients in two Blue Ridge Cancer Care
clinics within the New River Valley.
In 2008, she obtained her MSN degree as a family
nurse practitioner from Old Dominion University
in Norfolk, Virginia.
Karen joins Blue Ridge Cancer Care in Christiansburg,
Virginia as an oncology/hematology nurse practitioner
on August 1, 2009
She is a member of several professional organizations,
including the Oncology Nursing Society and the American
Academy of Nurse Practitioners. |
